Krka National Park (Croatia)
Okay, let’s get back to Croatia…
On the third day of our trip, we decided to drive slightly north of Trogir to Krka National Park. We parked our car in Skradin, a small town about 18 km away from Šibenik, and took a free ferry up the Krka River to the entrance of the national park. The ferry itself was crowded, but if you can secure yourself an outside seat, the scenery is beautiful. The ferry to the park runs on the hour, and the ferry from the park runs on the ½ hour. I completely recommend bullying yourself to the front of the pack in order to obtain the best seats. That’s why I decided to date V, he’s tall and good at pushing people around. Totally joking…kind of.

After a 20 minute boat trip with about 100 of my closest friends, we disembarked and ran to the ticket counter. I hate lines. The tickets to the park were more expensive than I was anticipating (I’ve been spoiled by Eastern European prices), but I don’t really have a problem supporting the upkeep of nature as beautiful as this. Once in the park, there were hiking trails, restaurants, souvenir stands, archaeological ruins, and waterfalls.

V and I did swim near the waterfalls. The water was delightful, but unfortunately, we were at the park before purchasing water shoes. My advice to you is: BRING WATER SHOES! The bottom of the river is fairly rocky. The rocks aren’t necessarily sharp, but it’s time consuming to constantly examine your next step and gain proper footing. While we swam, V’s parents walked around and purchased olive oil, wine, and homemade rakija.
We only spent a couple of hours in the park, but a lot of people set up areas to lay out, swim, and enjoy the scenery for the whole day. During the drive back to Okrug Gornji, we stopped at a highly recommended restaurant in Boraja (a small town that was not especially beautiful/charming). Upon entering the restaurant, we noticed that there were no menus. Lamb was the specialty, and clearly, it was what everyone drove to the town to indulge in. The waiter only asked us how hungry we were and if we wanted salad. Hungry and yes. It was so good, and a perfect end to one of my favorite days in Croatia.

I’m so guessing you ate sopska salata which omg is my favorite! totally making me hungry at 11:40pm …which if I was in Europe right now I’d be eating since that is completely normal there…but I’m in Cali lol….that wouldn’t be too cool. hehe
<3
I just looked it up, and I don’t think I did :( It looks (and sounds) almost like the salad we ate and a popular Lithuanian salad, but a lot better.
you HAVE to eat it :) so good!
LOL i loved that you looked it up! thats totally something I would have done!

Brooke I’m distressed! Your blog comes up all funny on my computer! I can only access it on my iPhone! Why?!?
Those waterfalls are so beautiful. Gah!! Send me there now!!!!!
Oh no! I have no idea why. I used a website validator, and everything came out okay. I think I know what you mean, though. When I was at an internet cafe in Croatia, the computer used an older version of Internet Explorer, and my site looked funky. I brushed it off though, because I have NO idea how to fix it. This site was built on about 1,000 google searches…no real knowledge (haha, I use google way too much, Iva!)
Oh, and Iva (if you happen to see this), I can’t tell if the comments I leave on your blog show up. Your comment section is talking to me in Lithuanian, and my Lithuanian isn’t that good…haha.
Looks stunning! I haven’t been to Croatia, yet – but people keep recommending it to me, so I’m sure it’s only a matter of time…. :)
