Storm

This morning, I woke up to storm sirens blaring outside my window.  So, obviously, I grabbed my camera and ran outside just in time to watch a huge wall cloud engulf the sky above my house: Unfortunately (I love severe weather), these ominous clouds were deceptive.  The storm wasn’t too bad, but the wind did blow some things around the yard.  As I was pulling out of my driveway to head to a manicure/pedicure date with my younger cousins, I noticed a displaced nest,... Read More

Now, Back to the Regularly Scheduled Programming…

A blue sunset (thanks to Hipstamatic): This week and next are slightly insane.  To put it in perspective, after a meeting, I had this conversation with my mom: Me:  I need wine.  Do you have any, or did the Family Friend clean you out again (joking)? Mom:  Gone.  That sounds good to me too.  I should have Dad go buy more. Me:  He just packed up and went. Mom: Packed and went where? Me:  I mean, he grabbed Leo and went upstairs. Mom: Hmmm…Packed up the dog for... Read More

Principal Charity Classic

In Iowa, my parents live on a golf course.  This serves absolutely no purpose, because we actually belong to a different country club on the other side of town.  I don’t get it either.  However, I’m not complaining, because unlike our course, dozens of homes line this one.  I’m pretty sure all of the intact windows that like their intactness thank me for going elsewhere. Anyway… When the Principal Charity Classic golf tournament, a stop on the Champions... Read More

Sunrise

I am not a morning person.  I don’t work well in the morning. I don’t look spectacular in the morning.  I can barely function in the morning. I accomplish what I accomplish late at night. Anyway… Yesterday, I had to wake up at 5 am.  I usually go to bed at 2 am.  I finished 6 cups of coffee by 6:30 am and was still suffering from an acute bout of narcolepsy.  ’Twas not pretty.  However, I think I managed to brush my teeth.  My hair?  Not so much. In... Read More

Iowa’s Finest

Last night, I met up with some friends for a late dinner and a few drinks.  We aimlessly meandered around downtown Des Moines looking for a crowd that consisted of more than a bartender and a regular.  We also looked for karaoke, because….actually, don’t even ask. Anyway… We soon found ourselves in an empty bar talking to a corpulent bartender.  Wanting some excitement, my friend asked him, “So, what’s the craziest thing you have ever done?”... Read More

Cupped

So, thanks to a car accident when I was 16, I have a bad neck.  More specifically, my neck is lopsided (I only have one sternocleidomastoid) due to a torn cranial nerve.  For awhile, this caused all kinds of problems that I won’t bore you with (HEADACHES), but after an occipital nerve block, things got exponentially better. Anyway… After 5 days with a headache last week, I was desperate to try something that was not a knock-you-out painkiller.  Not that I don’t... Read More
