Santa Monica Pier and Bike Ride to Venice Beach

Last weekend, my sister, friend, and I decided to head to Santa Monica and rent some bikes. As we were walking down to the Santa Monica Pier, a man handed us tickets for a Special Olympic charity event that were going to go unused. With a face value of $150 each, we obviously took advantage of the generous offer (Thanks, Guy!). After grabbing some free food from a handful of famous Los Angeles restaurants, we decided to hit up the rides. When my friend and I were driving to California, I deprived him of a stop at a random roller coaster in Nevada. I needed to make it up to him. The pier seemed like a good place to do that, while simultaneously taking in some pretty views:

After this unplanned excursion, we set out to find some bikes. While there is a bike rental place right on the Santa Monica Pier, it is significantly more expensive than the one we found under the pier directly on the bike path. I’m all about convenience and saving money. We spent $17 for an entire day’s rental, which is fine seeing that a damn drink in this city costs about $14.

My sister’s calves hurt from the previous day’s hike up Runyon Canyon, so she had her heart set on a tandem bicycle. My friend received the honor of riding around with her. They topped it all off by singing, “A bicycle built for two.” They aren’t ridiculous at all…

I claimed a bright blue beach cruiser with an extremely badass basket. Once on our bikes, we rode down to Venice Beach. All I can say about Venice is that if I lived there, I would turn extremely weird very quickly. That city is bizarre/awesome. We did a bar crawl on the way back to Santa Monica, starting with giant margaritas at Cabo Cantina. We even found a random drum circle to join. It was a fun day. So fun, in fact, that we’re currently making plans to do it again tomorrow.

So where is the picture of your sister and friend on the tandem…was it like Smithers (you’re friend) doing all the work with Mr Burns (Your sister) draped over the back????

I have a really poor quality picture that I was too lazy to include, because it wasn’t uploaded to my computer yet. And, yes! It was exactly like that, even though I don’t exactly know what you are talking about. She mostly had her feet resting on the middle bar when my friend was not paying attention.

Brooke have you never seen the Simpsons?

I guess even if you have you probably haven’t seen the episode of which
I type….Damn you Matt Groening and your millions of brilliant episodes….

But don’t worry, with the use of my phenomenal memory – or Google (I can’t remember which?) I have discovered the episode
