The “Big Max” Challenge at Grandma Max’s

After a few days of exercise, we’re taking a break and going back to eating exorbitant amounts of food. Or, rather, going back to watching Alex gorge himself on insane portions in an unfathomably short amount of time. You can read up on his previous eating adventures here:

To be honest, he’s kind of running out of real challenges in the Des Moines area. He’s now focusing on time limits and breaking records. Last week, we hit up Grandma Max’s in Urbandale to watch Al take on the “Big Max”:

The “Big Max” is a 4-lb. hamburger that must be finished in an hour to win a picture on the Wall of Fame and a t-shirt; Al was aiming for 10 minutes. I found this crazy, because the damn thing was the size of a dinner plate:

However, I had very few doubts that he would accomplish his goal. I mean, this is Al we’re talking about. I think my friends and I are all getting pretty cocky about our human-garbage disposal friend. So, yeah, of course, he finished:

Just to clarify, that is 5 MINUTES and 26.8 SECONDS. Not one to give up after a large meal, he followed the “Big Max” with a tub of ice cream and a brownie sundae. I don’t think I will ever understand what is truly wrong with Alex.

I see your stalker marmot was put to good use as a 4lb hamburger (That Grandma Max takes no prisoners) – I guess it would have been 5lb burger if it had been a tailed variety….

Glad to be back in the strange eating world of Alex, I was beginning to worry that with all that healthy outdoor reading I was beginning to develop a virtual six pack…..It’s a shame that Alex didn’t get to meet McG in his eating heyday. McG does his best to put away 24 meals a day but you can tell his heart is no longer in it. That would have been a speed eating competition to watch…

Hang on a second, looking at Alex, if he had slightly ginger hair and a bit more facial fuzz he could be a McG doppelganger…Alex’s belly doesn’t brush across the floor as he searches for scraps does it?
