“The Big Stack” Challenge at Wellman’s Pub and Rooftop

I’m going to catch up on some previous posts before I attempt to describe the awesomeness that was the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas. Seriously, it was an amazing weekend, BUT I’m going to write about Alex‘s second eating challenge today…

We weren’t quite sure where to head after the sheer ridiculousness of the “Adam Emmenecker Challenge“, but after some research, my friends and I decided to head to Wellman’s Pub and Rooftop in West Des Moines to watch Al tackle a cheeseburger known as “The Big Stack”:

Now, in my last post on this subject, I failed to mention the FREE!!! aspect of these eating challenges. You see, Alex is cheap. Really, really cheap. So, a free meal is about all the motivation he needs to break records and take names. If he was forced to pay $30 for a cheeseburger, he might spontaneously combust into a fiery mess of half-digested strawberries and nutritional supplements. Also, I say this all with love ♥

That being said, I’m always fairly confident in his ability to finish a meal. He can definitely beat anyone (seriously) on volume of food eaten; he’s just fairly untested with time limits. Obviously, the time limit was not an issue at Jethro’s BBQ, so my friends and I had high hopes of a repeat performance at Wellman’s. Here’s The Big Stack:

It was bigger than I was anticipating. Plus, we had an official timer-guy sitting at our table watching the entire thing. Anyway, the timekeeper told us that 19 minutes was the record, but he also stated that barely a handful of people have finished the challenge successfully. Alex dug in. He’s not afraid to get messy. Yeah, I think he might have a bright future ahead of him; a future full of calories, grease, and glory…

Man v. Food Nation. Alex would dominate.

It’s those little details that you manage to miss out, that keep bringing me back to the Rambling Brooke. Slight bits of information that in the real world would probably end in my death and the possible destruction of the planet. That and the pride you take in making it hard for readers to work out how to post a comment .

Now I have to admit that not giving Alex finishing time, in the blog, was a work of evil genius and a great way of forcing me to watch the video (I managed to avoid the other food challenge video that you posted) ….Apart from actually making me feel sick, I was impressed at how protective and vocal his manager was over every scrap of food….

Well, if the comment section is difficult to find, that means I only have to deal with the smart people ;) Actually, I’m pretty decent at tweaking basic layouts, and I made quite a few changes to this one. However, for the life of me, I can’t figure out how to make the comment count show up on the main page. I didn’t notice this little glitch until I was completely finished customizing the layout, so I decided to just deal with it. Now, I only have to respond to my sister and you…Oh, and the people who want me to enlarge my penis and buy prescription drugs off the internet.

And, if you think the video is bad, you should watch it in person. If you look closely at the last picture, I have gym clothes on. Everyone sitting at that table, minus Alex, went to the gym right after the challenge. I’m pretty sure just watching him eat makes you obese, like osmosis or something.

And, Katie, we’re working on it! We need to organize a mass tweeting to Man vs. Food on behalf of Al.
