Wall Drug Giveaway

The Last Sign

I am back in Des Moines after a great trip to Montana.  I keep saying this, but the snow and cold are much less appealing in Iowa.  The snow in Montana serves a purpose, a very fun purpose: skiing.  The snow and frigid temperatures in Iowa are about as enticing to me as the prospect of eating another Lithuanian potato (If you’re new around here, you might have to go back a few pages to understand that reference…).

Anyway…

Our trip started off with a 16 hour drive through Iowa, South Dakota, and Montana.  A drive through South Dakota might sound boring, but that state has some amazingly awesome roadside attractions.  I mean, who could pass up a visit to a palace completely made out of corn?  My dad.  That’s who.  Luckily, I did coerce him into stopping at Wall Drug.  The “famed” Wall Drug Store is advertised by billboards all over the world, with the majority of them spread out across South Dakota:  ”Wall Drug:  Sign Seen in Antarctica”,  ”Wall Drug: The Free Ice Water Store”, “Wall Drug:  50 Foot Dinosaur”, and on and on and on, times 100.  The store was not a letdown.  Well, it might be a letdown if you aren’t into ridiculously tacky souvenirs/crap amassed in a store boasting dinosaur statues, a windowless chapel, stuffed buffalo, and Midwestern tourists looking to complete their wardrobes with humorous t-shirts and cowboy hats.  But, if you’re into that kind of stuff, then Wall Drug is the place for you.  Plus, coffee costs 5 cents.

    yea,
My dad has something against the corn palace. I drove with him across South Dakota FOUR times and not once would he stop at the corn palace. Every time it was, oh its stupid we will stop on the way back and seriously never stop.

Dad would have also skipped Mt. Rushmore if he didnt break his ribs, let me drug him with vicodin and then let me drive. it was a beautiful trip to Mt. Rushmore that he will never remember.
